Katra offers 6 venues suitable for formal academic graduation ceremonies, drawing from a mix of hotel-based conference halls, banquet halls, and amphitheatres. The stock is concentrated around two key areas — Jammu Road and SMVD Chowk — making it relatively straightforward for institutions to shortlist options that suit both their guest count and their attendees' travel logistics. Most venues here are hotel properties, which brings the added convenience of on-site accommodation and catering for outstation graduates and faculty.
The Venues Available
The six properties span a range of hospitality tiers. Hotel AJ International and Hotel Ishan offer functional event spaces suited for smaller graduating batches. Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Katra and Hotel Vishal provide mid-scale options with structured event infrastructure. For institutions requiring a more prominent setting, Hotel Kashmir Residency and Welcomhotel By ITC Hotels, Katra represent the upper end of the local market. Venue types across these properties include conference halls, banquet halls, dining halls, an amphitheatre, and more specialised formats such as Summit and Samika spaces.
Capacity Planning for Your Ceremony
The full range across Katra's convocation venues runs from 50 to 500 guests, with a typical working capacity of 100–250. Four of the six venues are best suited to gatherings under 200 — making them a strong fit for departmental convocations, diploma ceremonies, or institute-level events with focused attendance. None of the venues in this set extend beyond 600, so institutions planning a large unified ceremony with several hundred guests should verify maximum-capacity arrangements directly on Spalba before shortlisting. For batch sizes in the 100–250 range, the selection is broad enough to compare formats and settings side by side.
Where Venues Are Located in Katra
Venues are clustered along Jammu Road and around SMVD Chowk, the two primary commercial and hospitality corridors in Katra. Both locations are accessible from the main highway approach to the town and are within reasonable distance of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University and other institutions in the region. This concentration means that once a date is fixed, coordinating guest movement between the ceremony venue and nearby accommodation is manageable for most group sizes.
