Haldighati
The Battle of Haldighati - a brutal war that took place at the Haldighati mountain pass on June 18th, 1576 - is one of the most famous battles fought in Indian history. It was a blood-stained struggle for power between the mighty Mughals and the local Rajput rulers, often regarded as a tale of great bravery, loyalty, ingenuity, and of winning against all odds.
Despite being significantly outnumbered and having weaker weaponry, the Rajput army put up a valiant fight against the Mughals, who suffered heavy casualties and were unable to capture or overthrow the Rajputs. The Haldighati pass derives its name from the turmeric (haldi) hue of the soil, which adds to the natural beauty of the region.
In addition to its rich history, Haldighati is also known for its vibrant cottage industries. Visitors can discover the region's unique rose products and mud art, both of which make for interesting and authentic souvenirs. Lake Fateh Sagar
Fateh Sagar Lake, an enchanting expanse of water, is embraced by the sublime beauty of the hills around it. Originally, it was a man-made lake that was constructed by the brilliant mind of Maharana Jai Singh in 1678 AD, located to the north of Lake Pichola. In 1884-1930 AD, during the reign of Maharana Fateh Singh, it was reconstructed after the earthen bund (dam) was washed away in floods. As a tribute to the Duke of Connaught's visit, the Maharana built Connaught Dam, which renamed the lake to Fateh Sagar Lake.
Fateh Sagar Lake is one of Udaipur's four majestic lakes and is home to three small islands, each with its unique charm. The largest of them all is Nehru Island, which is famous among tourists for its picturesque beauty. The second island boasts a public park and an awe-inspiring water-jet fountain. The third island, on the other hand, is where the Udaipur Solar Observatory can be found. The islands can be conveniently accessed by motorboats that are available for tourists to rent. As you look out onto the tranquil surface of the lake, along with the emerald, green mountains that envelope it, the title of the "second Kashmir" of India that Udaipur has been given is further strengthened.
