Haldighati

Haldighati

The Battle of Haldighati - a brutal war that took place at the Haldighati mountain pass on June 18th, 1576 - is one of the most famous battles fought in Indian history. It was a blood-stained struggle for power between the mighty Mughals and the local Rajput rulers, often regarded as a tale of great bravery, loyalty, ingenuity, and of winning against all odds.

Despite being significantly outnumbered and having weaker weaponry, the Rajput army put up a valiant fight against the Mughals, who suffered heavy casualties and were unable to capture or overthrow the Rajputs. The Haldighati pass derives its name from the turmeric (haldi) hue of the soil, which adds to the natural beauty of the region.

In addition to its rich history, Haldighati is also known for its vibrant cottage industries. Visitors can discover the region's unique rose products and mud art, both of which make for interesting and authentic souvenirs. Don't forget to visit the shrine erected by Maharana Pratap in honour of his beloved steed, Chetak, which can be found near Haldighati.
